In one wild day before a sold-out rock concert, a humble English roadie falls in love, impersonates a rock star, saves a woman from abuse, becomes an overnight sensation, and strips the mask off celebrity culture—literally and figuratively.
Synopsis
Davey, a big-hearted but overlooked English roadie, works for southern rock sensation Sammy World—a tyrannical, self-destructive, womanizing mess of a man. Underpaid, overworked, and constantly ridiculed, Davey’s only solace is watching from the sidelines as Sammy charms audiences and women alike—including the stunning Leland Daniels, Sammy’s current girlfriend.
Davey secretly pines for Leland, penning poems that accidentally end up in her hands—though she believes they came from Sammy. Meanwhile, Sammy spirals into addiction and self-sabotage, blowing off a critical meeting with European promoter Jean-Claude Renoir. In a bold move, Davey dons the flamboyant Sammy World stage outfit and impersonates the rocker, charming Jean-Claude and his daughter in the process.
As Leland uncovers Sammy’s betrayals and suffers a violent outburst at his hands, Davey intervenes heroically, knocking Sammy out cold. With the real Sammy incapacitated and press arriving en masse, Davey and Leland concoct a plan: fake it till they make it. Davey will step into the spotlight one last time.
The final act? A full-blown concert—shot in vibrant color—where Davey reveals his true self to a roaring crowd, exposing the industry’s illusions and winning hearts in the process. But the real star, as Davey declares on stage, is Leland.
The Roadie is a black & white, Dogme-style romantic dramedy that pulls back the curtain on fame, love, and finding your voice when the mic’s finally yours.
